What Logmiles records
Logmiles records the drives you take so your mileage log fills itself in.
While a drive is in progress the app stores each location fix — time, coordinates and accuracy — on your phone.
When the drive ends, the app keeps a single trip: its start and end points, the route it took, the distance, and the labels for where you started and finished.
The app also keeps a technical log of when tracking started, stopped, or was interrupted, so it can show you honestly what it did and did not capture.
Trips you type in by hand, trips you import from a MileIQ export, and trips Logmiles rebuilds from your answers are stored the same way, and are labelled as what they are.
Nothing you write — a label, a note, your vehicle — is required, and you can edit any trip or remove it from your log.
Your account
Logmiles creates an anonymous account for you on first launch, with no email, no password and no sign-up screen, so your log can sync and survive a reinstall.
If you later attach an Apple account so the log follows you to a new phone, Apple gives Logmiles your email address and the name you choose to share.
Your log is stored under that account and is readable only by it.
Where your data goes
Your trips, gaps, rebuilt-log records, trial record, subscription record and profile sync to Logmiles' own backend, hosted on Supabase (AWS, us-east-1).
The raw location fixes behind each drive, and the technical tracking log, stay on your phone — they are never uploaded.
The technical tracking log and the raw location fixes are deleted automatically once they are 60 days old; each trip keeps its own route.
To turn the ends of a drive into street names, Logmiles asks the geocoder built into your phone, which sends those coordinates to Apple (on iPhone) or Google (on Android).
When you open the map for a trip, the map tiles are fetched from Stadia Maps, which sees your device's IP address and the area of the map you are looking at; no account data is sent with the request.
When you export a report, the file goes wherever you send it through your phone's own share sheet.
Permissions
Location "Always" is what lets Logmiles record a drive you did not open the app for; without it, drives that happen while the app is closed are lost.
Motion access is what tells Logmiles a drive has started, so the GPS is not running the rest of the day.
Calendar access is optional, is asked for only if you choose to rebuild a past year from your work pattern, and only the pattern — which days you worked — is kept; no event titles, times or attendees are stored or uploaded.
If you pick your car's stereo as a start trigger, only that device's name and id are stored, on your phone.
Every permission is explained on a Logmiles screen before your phone asks for it.
What Logmiles does not do
- Logmiles does not sell your data.
- Logmiles does not use your data for advertising, and contains no advertising or ad-attribution SDK. On Android, the subscription SDK includes Google's install-referrer client, used only to connect a checkout link you tapped to your install — never for ads.
- Logmiles does not track you across other companies' apps or websites.
- No location, no route, no trip and no calendar content is ever sent to Logmiles' analytics or crash-reporting providers.
Analytics, diagnostics and payment
Logmiles sends product analytics — which screens you open and which actions you take — to Mixpanel, tied to your account id, the date the account was created, the app version, which onboarding you saw, and whether you are on the trial or subscribed.
Crash and error reports go to Sentry, with no account identifier attached.
Subscriptions are sold and charged by Apple or Google; Superwall, given your account id, handles which paywall you see and tells Logmiles whether you are subscribed.
If you allow notifications, Logmiles schedules a reminder on your phone before your free 7 days end; nothing about notifications leaves your device.
Deleting everything
Deleting your account in Settings deletes the account itself and, with it, every row Logmiles holds for you on the server.
The same action erases everything on this phone: the trips, the raw location fixes, the tracking log, and every setting.
After that, the app starts over with a new anonymous account and an empty log.
Attaching your log to an account that already has one gives you the same choice, and takes the same route: the abandoned account is deleted before the switch.
